Turn Off That Annoying Apple iPhone Prompt in Windows!

I don’t know if I should blame Apple or Microsoft…fuck it, Microsoft wins!

By the way, before we start, if you’re on Vista, go here for your solution. This one’s for XP users (i.e. those who didn’t get spoon fed Microsoft’s crap).

So, you got your iPhone but you’re still a Windows Jockey. You’ve got iTunes and you plug your tidy-whitey USB cable into your PC. You plug your iPhone in and hear that ever familiar beep-boop as Windows says, “Hello, Competition’s Money Machine! What do you want me to do?” and you get this:

Please go away!

Now, for most Windows removable media (audio CDs, photo CDs, flash cards, etc.) you get the option to Take No Action. For whatever reason (maybe it’s Apple’s fault), this option doesn’t exist! So, you’re left with hitting Cancel every friggin time (yes, I’m guilty of trying to check that checkbox and hitting Cancel in the hopes that there’s some stupid hack to get past it).

Up until now, I’ve just sort of said, screw it…it’s a routine. But, for some reason today I said, Nah, I’m not dealing with this shit anymore. I did a search but barely found anything (there was a top 10 hit that led to a forum where the guy said he found the solution BUT DIDN’T POST THE DAMNED SOLUTION!

Digging around some more I found a solution for Vista but if you know me, you know I’m not a big fan of Vista. I’m still running XP. So, I decided to do some digging around. I started with the Device Manager since the Vista solution seemed to go that way (from a Vista perspective of course). No dice.

Then I thought, it was something off the Control Panel…let’s look. Lookie here! Turns out my phone is showing up under the Scanners and Cameras control panel (well, I guess I should’ve known).

Clicking the phone will open up the import wizard so you can import your photos. But, RIGHT-clicking will give you a context menu. Click Properties.

You’ll get the General tab below:

Camera General Tab

Now, click the Event Tab to get this:

Camera Event Tab

Sweet fancy Moses! What do we have here? Check it out! “Take no action”! Select that bitch and click OK. BAM!

Now, you can unplug and plug your iPhone in without getting asked EVERY FUCKING TIME!

Congratulations, you can now move on with your life without having Windows nagging you like Microsoft’s looking for a handout.

Microsoft/Apple, either way, you both can’t suck enough!
